Counselors

CCEF's counselors are trained to deal with all of life's challenges in light of God's revelation to us in the Bible. Therefore, every counselor is available to counsel on a variety of issues. In addition, some counselors have particular areas of interest and/or experience. You will find them listed below each counselor's personal information.

Mike Bedzyk
Mike is a counselor at CCEF. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Covenant College and is currently completing a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from The Master’s Seminary in California. Mike has worked in church ministry for five years, with specific focus on discipleship, small groups, and counseling ministries. Much of his spare time is spent honing his landscaping, racquetball, and guitar-playing skills. He also loves spending time with his family in North Georgia and South Florida. Areas of interest/experience: overcoming social phobias, low motivation, and obsessive thoughts, to the glory of God.

Cecelia Bernhardt
Cecelia is the director of counseling at CCEF. She has completed the Advanced Counseling Certificate through CCEF and also has a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. She has worked in various Christian ministries for many years, including women’s ministries at her church. She enjoys her large family, reading, music and flowers - live and in water color! Areas of interest/experience: women's issues, singleness, young adults, teens, marriage counseling, depression, and sexual abuse.

Hannah Clark
Hannah holds a master of arts in Biblical counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. She has completed the internship at CCEF and also works as a youth and music director at her church. In her free time, Hannah enjoys running, cooking, being with her family, playing guitar, and backpacking. Areas of interest/experience: marriage counseling, teen issues, women's issues, eating disorders, and anxiety.

Mike Emlet
Mike is a faculty member and oversees the intern program at CCEF. He holds an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. He worked as a family physician for twelve years before joining CCEF. Mike is married to Jody, and they have two children. He is active in his urban church and, when he has time, creates beautiful pieces on a potter's wheel! Areas of interest/experience: psychiatric issues (particularly OCD).

Alasdair Groves
Alasdair holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary with an emphasis on counseling.  He has completed the CCEF internship and has two years of experience as staff worker in college campus ministry.  Alasdair and his wife Lauren are the proud parents of a baby girl!  Alasdair is a fiction enthusiast, plays ultimate frisbee, and loves to produce and enjoy both good food and good music.  Areas of interest/experience: sexual addiction, pornography, dating, issues of grief and death.

Kimberly Han
Kimberly is the program director for distance education at CCEF. She has a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. She has been involved in church ministry for many years, which includes being a lay counselor in the Korean American church. In addition, she has been working alongside her husband, Martin, who is involved in pastoral ministry. Kim and Martin have two young children. Kim also loves cooking, watching movies and the Food Network, learning about different cultures, and reading. Areas of interest/experience: relationships, women's issues, cross-cultural counseling, premarital & marriage counseling and chronic mental illness.

Monica Kim
Monica is Associate Faculty at CCEF. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Toronto, Canada and a Master of Arts in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary. Monica has worked in church ministry for fourteen years and is currently a part of the pastoral staff at her local church. As a part of the staff she speaks, teaches Bible studies, leads women's groups and counsels youth and families. She is married to Danny, an ordained Pastor, and they have three exciting boys. Monica enjoys spending time with her children and tasting new food with her husband and she is fluent in the Korean language. Areas of interest/experience: premarital counseling, marriage counseling, family and depression counseling

Gregory F. Lowe
Greg has a depth of training with a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary, a Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology. His many years of counseling experience include four years of formal counseling and five more years in counseling the severely mentally ill. Greg is married and an adoptive parent of four. He and his wife serve as foster/adoptive parents. He enjoys hiking and outdoor activities, weight lifting and keeping up on health issues. Areas of interest/experience: sexual addiction, pornography and men's issues.

Julie Smith Lowe
Julie is Associate Faculty at CCEF and has been counseling for over twelve years. She has a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is pursuing certification as a Registered Play Therapist. Julie has been trained as a Certified Christian Conciliator through Peacemakers Ministries and has spoken on conflict resolution for various groups. She has extensive experience with foster and adoptive families and speaks at events regarding women's issues, children and conflict resolution. Julie and her husband, Greg, have four children. Areas of interest/experience: women's issues, body image, adoption, child maltreatment & abuse, and issues regarding parenting & children.

Rosemary McElhenny
Rosie has received her Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Counseling. She has worked in church ministry for twelve years while counseling at CCEF for over five years. Rosie serves on the women's ministry council and discipleship commission at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, where she also teaches Sunday School. Rosie is married and enjoys reading of all kinds, especially mysteries and non-fiction. When opportunity allows, Rosie enjoys gardening, house restoration and various handcrafts. Areas of interest/experience: relationship issues, premarital and marriage counseling, singleness, women's issues, teen issues, and anxiety.

Aaron Sironi
Aaron is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor at our CCEF affiliate office in his home state of Montana and has been counseling for five years. He holds a Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary and is a certified Level I and Level III biblical counselor from CCEF. He is married to his wife Kellie, and they have two young sons. Aaron enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and outdoor sports. Areas of interest/experience: marriage, family, psychiatric issues, and Hispanic culture and language.

Winston T. Smith
Winston is a faculty member and has been counseling for many years. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary, where he is also in the process of attaining a Doctor of Ministry degree. Winston is married to his wife Kim, and they have three school-age children. Winston enjoys reading, listening to music, exercise, chess and other games of strategy. Areas of interest/experience: marriage and family, depression and anxiety.

Darby Strickland
Darby has a Master of Divinity degree in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bio-psychology from the University of Chicago. She has been doing formal counseling for over seven years. While focused on marriage and family counseling, Darby has a special interest in working with abused and developmentally delayed children. One of her own children is developmentally delayed, so Darby counsels from experience. She and her husband, John, have three young children. Her hobbies include photography, swimming and reading, and she never met a cookie she did not like. Areas of interest/experience: marriage counseling and family issues.

Todd Stryd
Todd holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Westminster Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Counseling and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology at Immaculata University. He has experience as a hospital chaplain and crisis worker. He and his wife, Allie, have two children. Todd enjoys basketball, video games, hiking, spending time with his wife, and being a dad. Areas of interest/experience: marriage counseling, male issues, adolescents, schizophrenia and depression.

Ed Welch
Ed is a faculty member at CCEF and holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a Neuro-psychology specialty from the University of Utah as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Biblical Theological Seminary. Ed has been counseling for over 27 years and has written many books and articles on biblical counseling including, When People are Big and God is Small, Addictions: a Banquet in the Grave, Blame it on the Brain?, Depression, and his newest book Running Scared. He and his wife, Sheri, have two married daughters and two grandchildren. In his spare time Ed enjoys hanging out with his wife and playing his guitar. Areas of interest/experience: depression and addictions.
