Crucial Issues in Contemporary Biblical Counseling

Journal of Biblical Counseling 9:3

In this article, David Powlison discusses six core issues that face the contemporary biblical counseling movement. The first concerns the movement’s foundation and the other five concern how we build on that foundation. Among those Powlison identifies are: the continued influence of secular psychology; questions on human motivation; the relationship between human responsibility and suffering; the counselor-counselee relationship; contextualization and a clear articulation of the relation of biblical counseling to secular psychology.
