Cultivating the Vineyard: Solomon’s Counsel for Lovers

Journal of Biblical Counseling 15:3

In this article, George Schwab offers an original translation of the Song of Songs and then adds his commentary with counseling applications. Schwab draws out four main points: First, the Song of Songs first addresses couples before the time of sexual passion, setting sexuality into a bounded context. Second, Song of Songs deals with the power of sexual and romantic feelings. Third, Song of Songs portrays sexuality fully engaged in marriage. Finally, sexuality’s joys are bounded by the many facets of living in a broken, cursed world that anticipates redemption.
