Disciplined Listening

Journal of Biblical Counseling 1:1

In this article, Stingley presents the idea of “disciplined listening” and contrasts it with the counseling approach of Carl Rogers (Rogerian counseling). Stingley argues that disciplined listening begins with listening to God’s Word, stating, “it ought to be obvious that the answers to man’s problems are not in man but are in God.” Sitingley ends his article with a discussion of other aspects of listening including non-verbal communication and covert messages.
