In this article, David Powlison interviews a woman who experienced many years of severe depression. She speaks of what depression was like for her, as well as of significant life experiences and the patterns that controlled her thinking, motives and activities. She describes in detail the turning point, both God’s providence and the role of counseling. Over time she started to understand the grace of God in ways that rearranged her experience of depression. As she grew, she made significant changes in her family, education, personal goals, and ministry.
