Pursue the Servant’s Mindset

Journal of Biblical Counseling 17:3

In this article, Stuart Scott maintains that pride sits on both sides of the counselor’s desk and is a pervasive counseling problem. Scott argues that both the haves and the have-nots are eaten up with pride—the whole self-esteem movement consists of the have-nots hoping to be the haves. Scott pursues numerous strands of biblical teaching dealing with the epidemic vice of pride and lists 15 characteristics of pride. Scott concludes by listing 10 different ways one can demonstrate humility.
