Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Body Image and Addiction to Appearance
Presented byJulie Lowe
Everyone is bombarded with the message that physical beauty is paramount. The price for flawlessness is often steep—eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-hatred, and the like. In this audio talk, Lowe approaches addiction to appearance by looking directly at the alternatives. She encourages strugglers to understand the calling that is far better than their addiction to their body: they are called to understand that they are image bearers, who are meant to image God and not others with their lives. Lowe addresses common threads that can be found in every person who struggles with body image issues and discusses ways helpers can call strugglers to freedom from their obsession with their bodies.
