A Biblical Theology of Relationships

Journal of Biblical Counseling 19:3

In this article, Paul Randolph maintains that married couples need more than a list of communication and problem-solving principles. Randolph argues that they need to understand how wise principles fit within an overall vision for marriage, and how their marital conflicts arise from faulty visions, expectations, and goals. Just as God shows Himself a model parent throughout the Bible, so He is a model husband. Randolph argues that marriage modeled on God’s covenant involvement will express three covenant principles: commitment, love, and law. These give us a framework from which many practical applications arise. Randolph concludes by tracing out data-gathering questions and goals to set in helping people change.
