Biblical Counseling in Korea: An Interview with Kyu Whang and Ed Welch

In this article, Ed Welch interviews Kyu Whang, the Director of Korean Ministerial Education. They discuss the reality that the Korean church has not been characterized by organized, intentional counseling practice or philosophy. But pastors and lay leaders increasingly see the need for counseling training and practice. Integrationist psychology has made some inroads, but Korean Christians tend to be more biblically oriented than psychologically oriented. The interview concludes that education and training in biblical counseling, along with publishing and translation of materials, are all increasing.
