This article is originally listed as Part 1 of a series, but the series of studies that was never finished in the JPP. This is the only article in the series. In this article, Robert Strain examines the characteristics that counselors should guide counselees towards in counseling. He bases the characteristics on the Beatitudes presented in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. Strain argues that the Beatitudes declare where true blessedness is found, focus on inner matters and show the essential difference between the world and the Christian. He concludes his article with a discussion of poverty of spirit.
