Songs in the Night: Music, Hardship, and the Nearness of God (Micro Session)

What does it mean that God gives his suffering people "songs in the night?" Pastor and author Charles Spurgeon referred to the psalms as expressions "rising from unutterable depths of woe." In this way, the most musical book in the Bible also happens to be one that is thoroughly acquainted with trials. Not only that, but throughout church history there has been a pastoral instinct to give God’s embattled people renewed musical expressions of trust, of sorrow, and of hope. This session will explore the relationship in Scripture between music and trials.
